Deck13’s hit 2D action game CrossCode has garnered a massive audience. The game first received a hardcore following after opening up a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. Following its release, the game earned positive reviews from critics and an ever growing hoard of dedicated players. With new players flocking to this hit title every day, we have decided to form a quick guide of useful tips for new players to enjoy.
1. You Can Jump Farther Than You Might Think
Traversing the map of CrossWorld can be a bit tough at times. That being said, there is one way you can make it a little easier.
You will find yourself jumping around quite a bit in CrossCode. Consequently, you are going to want to make the most out of every leap.
If you find yourself needing to cross a gap and your landing spot seems just out of reach, this technique will help increase your leap. First, perform an attack as you leap into the air. Once the attack begins, perform a dash. Then, quickly cancel the dash action by bringing up your guard.
Once you land, you should have your shield facing forward. The end result of this technique is a slightly larger leap, allowing you to traverse some areas more easily. Of course, it will take some practice before you get the technique down.
2. There Is an Unlimited Dodge and You Should Definitely Be Using It
Dodging is a crucial part of survival in CrossCode. That being said, the quick dodge action only has three charges before the skill needs time to replenish. That being said, there is a way around this issue.
Once you have performed your third and final dash, drop your shield. Then, use the dodge action again. It will take some practice to get the timing down for this. But, this is a great way to override the quick dodge cooldown so that you can dodge whenever you please.
3. Don’t Forget to Update Your Equipment
One of the most powerful ways you can increase Lea’s strength is with new equipment. Circuits are important. And, leveling is important. That being said, your equipment will make the largest difference to your character.
The most common way you are going to find new equipment is through trades. You can find a list of every trade available within the game at crosscode.gamepedia.com. Taking advantage of trades is a great way to hunt down powerful, buff infused equipment. That being said, you can also buy equipment at a majority of the shops you will come across.
4. This Game Has an Alternate Ending (Spoiler-Free)
During the late-stage of the game, you will eventually find yourself at a crossroads. You will be tasked with completing a series of side quests before finishing CrossCode’s story. However, you do not have to finish these quests. You can simply finish the game.
Choosing to complete or to not complete these final side quests will have an impactful effect on the game’s ending. It is suggested that you create a save file before making your choice. This way, you can always go back and see what the other decision would have brought.
5. It Doesn’t Hurt to Go It Alone
When exploring CrossWorld, you will likely have a party of characters with you most of the time. That being said, more party members is not necessarily a good thing.
CrossCode treats itself like an MMO in some instances. For example, you will have experience leached away from Lea by other party members. Beyond that, you will actually deal less damage the more party members you have.
CrossCode will reduce your damage by over 30% depending on the number of members in your party. The experience lost to other party members can be quite significant as well.
As a result, you can always explore CrossWorld alone if you ever feel the need to level up Lea or if you want to get rid of that pesky damage reduction. That being said, it is important to note that party members will not gain experience when not actively in your party.
Bonus Tip
CrossCode has quite a number of hidden chests that are just waiting to be discovered. Each of these chests holds a valuable and useful item that you can add to your collection.
