How-To Restart a Save in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Dragon’s Dogma 2 doesn’t make it easy to start over and thankfully you don’t need to pay anything to do so, microtransaction jokes aside. It’s a rather simple process, which we will highlight below. You may wonder if there’s a way to start over, say if you fail enough missions or just want to retry some parts of the game and there is, on PC. The caveat is that you have to go and do some manual computer work and disable Steam cloud save.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 doesn’t have a new game mode like many traditional RPGs, adding somehow to its charm as something a bit antithetical to the way RPGs normally operate. That doesn’t mean you can’t reset your progress!

Resetting Your Progress in Dragon’s Dogma 2

You’ll need to follow the following steps, step-by-step. If at any point you feel uncomfortable in the following process, it’s probably best to reach back out to the community to triple / quadriple check what you’re doing.

  1. Open the Steam Application on your PC that has Dragon’s Dogma 2 saved.
  2. Access your game library via the library tab and find Dragon’s Dogma 2.
  3. Right click the game, choose “properties” from the dropdown list.
  4. Choose the option in the properties window to “Disable Steam Cloud Saves”
  5. Use Windows Explorer (or windows key – R to open run) and open: “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam”
  6. Go to the “Userdata” folder. Here you’ll see one or more folders with random numbers. One of these folders is your account, related to your Steam ID. You’ll be able to identify the proper folder because it’ll likely contain more folders than the others (one for each game installed).
  7. Locate the folder labeled ‘2054970’ which is Dragon’s Dogma 2.
  8. Go to the Remote folder.
  9. Go to win64_save.
  10. Delete everything inside of the folder (you can back it up by copying it to another location before deleting it).

Following these steps, you’ll now be able to start Dragon’s Dogma 2 with a completely fresh game.

Starting Over… by Playing

There’s an option to avoid all of this. If you finish Dragon’s Dogma 2, you can start New Game Plus. This is similar to the above, except you get the New Game Plus content. So even if you’re really far into the game and are longing for another go, remember you’ll get one when you finish the game!
