Quematrice Loadout Guide – Monster Hunter Wilds
The Quematrice is one of the first major monsters you’ll face in Monster Hunter Wilds, and it poses a challenge for newcomers and returning hunters alike. This fiery bird-like monster is highly aggressive, agile, and packs powerful fire attacks. To take it down effectively, you’ll need the right equipment and strategy. This guide breaks down the best beginner-friendly loadout to tackle the Quematrice and claim victory in your hunt.
Quematrice is a Fire-element monster, meaning its attacks inflict fire damage. It also has good mobility, using quick lunges, fiery blasts, and spinning tail swipes to keep hunters at bay. However, Quematrice is weak to Water and Ice elements, making these ideal choices to exploit during your hunt.
It can inflict the Fireblight status effect, which steadily drains your health unless extinguished, and its attacks can quickly stun or knock back hunters who aren’t careful.
The best weapons to use against Quematrice are those that capitalize on its elemental weaknesses or provide good mobility and defensive capabilities.
Uth Khlunda I (Long Sword): Crafted from the Uth Duna materials, this Long Sword provides Water elemental damage, making it perfect for exploiting Quematrice’s weakness. Its quick combos and counterattacks help you evade punishments from Quematrice’s swift movements.
Barina Flamberge I (Long Sword): If you prefer an alternative, the Barina Flamberge I provides Paralysis. While not directly exploiting elemental weaknesses, causing paralysis can immobilize Quematrice, allowing your team to deal heavy damage uninterrupted.
Early-game hunts don’t typically provide extensive decoration or talisman options, but once accessible, prioritize the following:
Always bring the following items for your Quematrice hunt:
Quematrice is highly mobile and aggressive. Stay agile, and make use of the dodge roll to avoid its fiery blasts and lunging attacks. Watch its attack patterns carefully, and try to position yourself to strike the head and wings, as breaking these parts will significantly reduce its offensive capabilities.
Quematrice’s fire attacks inflict Fireblight, which drains health over time. Quickly use a dodge roll three times or consume a Nulberry to remove it. Do not let this status linger, as it can quickly drain your health.
For Long Sword users, mastering the Iai Spirit Slash counter and Foresight Slash will help you evade Quematrice’s swift attacks while simultaneously dealing damage. Utilize Spirit Release Slash when you have a safe opening for massive damage.
If you’re using the Great Sword, the Offset Rising Slash provides a powerful counterattack, creating large windows to punish Quematrice’s mistakes. Follow up with True Charged Slashes whenever the monster is immobilized or stunned.
Targeting Quematrice’s wings, head, and tail allows you to gather valuable crafting materials and reduce the effectiveness of its attacks. Breaking the head weakens its fiery breath, while breaking wings reduces mobility. Aim carefully and utilize the new “Focus Mode” to target these wounds efficiently.
As you progress beyond your first encounters with Quematrice, consider upgrading your weapons to advanced options:
For armor progression, replacing the Chatacabra pieces with Rey Dau armor will give you access to skills like Latent Power, enhancing your offensive capabilities as you become more adept at dodging and countering.
Hunting Quematrice may seem daunting for new players, but with the right preparation and knowledge, you’ll quickly master its attack patterns and weaknesses. Remember to stay mobile, manage your health and status effects, and capitalize on elemental weaknesses to ensure a successful hunt. Good luck, hunters!
