Throne and Liberty: Trait Guide

Welcome to our comprehensive Throne and Liberty Trait Guide! In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about the Traits system in Throne and Liberty, from unlocking and upgrading traits to extracting and converting them. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to optimize your end-game gear, this guide has you covered.

What Are Traits in Throne and Liberty?

In Throne and Liberty, traits are special attributes that can be applied to your gear (weapons, armor, and accessories) to grant additional stats and bonuses. These traits can significantly impact your performance in combat, both in PvE and PvP scenarios.

Each piece of gear can have up to three traits, with a fourth “Resonance Trait” unlocked once the initial traits are fully leveled up. Traits are randomly rolled when an item drops or is crafted and can include a variety of bonuses such as increased attack speed, critical hit chance, or even defensive boosts like evasion.

Unlocking Traits

Unlocking traits is an essential part of character progression in Throne and Liberty. To unlock traits, follow these steps:

1. Finding Gear with Desired Trait

  • Random Drops: When you obtain gear from loot drops (bosses, dungeons, etc.), it will come with a random trait. If you find a piece of gear with a trait you want, you can unlock that trait for future use.
  • Buying from Auction House: If you’re looking for a specific trait and don’t want to rely on RNG drops, you can buy Extracted Traits from the Auction House. This allows you to add specific traits to your gear without waiting for the perfect drop.

2. Using Trait Unlockstones

  • Trait Unlockstones are special items that allow you to unlock new trait slots on your gear. The number of unlockstones required depends on the rarity and type of the item.

Leveling Up Traits

Once you’ve unlocked a trait, you’ll want to level it up to maximize its effectiveness. Leveling traits works similarly to unlocking them, but with some key differences:

1. Same Item Type

  • To level up a trait, you’ll need another piece of gear of the same item type (e.g., weapon, armor). The trait does not need to be the exact same as the one you are upgrading, but the quality of the item matters.

2. Success Rates

  • The success rate of trait upgrades depends on the rarity of the item being used.
    • Same Rarity (Epic to Epic): 100% success rate.
    • One Rarity Lower (Rare to Epic): 10% success rate.
    • Two Rarities Lower (Uncommon to Epic): 1% success rate.

3. Blessings

  • If your trait upgrade fails, you will receive a Blessing. Blessings act as a pity system, increasing your success rate by a percentage for your next trait upgrade attempt. For example, if you fail an upgrade using a Rare item (10% success rate), you will receive a 10% Blessing, which can be used to bolster your next upgrade attempt.

Converting Traits

You can also convert traits on gear, which allows you to change an unwanted trait to something more useful. To convert traits:

1. Exact Duplicate Required

  • To convert a trait, you need an exact duplicate of the item that has the desired trait. For instance, if you want to change the trait on a Lequirus Grip to Heavy Attack Chance, you’ll need a second Lequirus Grip that has the Heavy Attack Chance trait.

2. Trait Conversion Stones

  • Trait conversions also require Trait Conversion Stones, which can be acquired through in-game activities such as mystic portals, guild merchants, or dynamic events.

3. Random Trait Conversion

  • If you don’t have an exact duplicate, you can gamble for a random trait conversion. However, this method is risky and can result in an undesirable trait.

Extracting Traits

In Throne and Liberty, you can extract traits from gear to sell or use them elsewhere. This method destroys the original item but preserves the trait for future use or sale:

1. Trait Extraction Stone

  • To extract a trait, you’ll need a Trait Extraction Stone and Sollant. Once extracted, the trait can only be applied to an identical item (e.g., a trait extracted from a Lequirus Grip
can only be applied to another Lequirus Grip).

2. Auction House

  • Extracted traits can be listed on the Auction House for other players to buy, making it a viable way to earn in-game currency.

Upgrading to Resonance Trait

Once you’ve fully leveled all three traits on a piece of gear, you unlock the ability to add a Resonance Trait, a fourth and final trait that offers powerful bonuses:

1. Trait Resonance Stone

  • To unlock a Resonance Trait, you’ll need a Trait Resonance Stone, which can be crafted using Trait Resonance Stone Fragments. These fragments are earned through Substance Transformation.

2. Random vs. Selected Resonance

  • You can either roll for a random Resonance Trait or select a specific trait. Note that selecting a specific trait is significantly more expensive, requiring up to 20x more Trait Resonance Stones than a random roll.

Best Traits for Different Builds

1. Weapons

  • Heavy Attack Chance
  • Critical Hit
  • Attack Speed
  • Cooldown Speed

2. Armor

  • Evasion (All Types)
  • Endurance (All Types)
  • Max Health
  • Move Speed (Boots)

3. Accessories

  • Skill Damage Boost
  • Skill Damage Resistance
  • Max Health
  • Debuff Duration Reduction

The best traits will vary depending on your build and playstyle. For DPS builds, offensive traits like Critical Hit and Attack Speed are key, while tanks may prefer stacking Endurance and Max Health.

Maximizing Trait Acquisition

To gather traits efficiently, participate in the following in-game activities:

1. Dungeons and World Bosses

  • These activities often drop gear with valuable traits. Be sure to prioritize high-level dungeons or bosses for the best rewards.

2. Auction House

  • If a specific trait isn’t dropping for you, consider buying an extracted trait from the Auction House to save time.

3. Mystic Portals and Dynamic Events

  • Engage in these events to earn Trait Unlockstones and Trait Resonance Stones, which are essential for maximizing your gear.

Conclusion

Traits are a crucial system in Throne and Liberty, and understanding how to unlock, upgrade, and optimize them is key to excelling in both PvE and PvP content. By using Trait Unlockstones, Blessings, and Trait Conversion Stones, you can maximize the potential of your gear and achieve powerful stat bonuses.
