Naheulbeuk’s Dungeon Master arrives on Nintendo Switch, PS5 release set for November 8

Fans of the humorous and quirky Dungeon of Naheulbeuk universe have something new to celebrate! The Naheulbeuk’s Dungeon Master retail release is officially available on Nintendo Switch in North America as of today. Microids and Dear Villagers, the duo behind this title, have confirmed that the PlayStation 5 version is also on the way, but PlayStation fans will need to wait just a bit longer—November 8th is the target date for its physical edition launch.

For those not familiar, Naheulbeuk’s Dungeon Master builds on The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk, a world first brought to life in the form of an audio series by French author John Lang. Over time, the property has expanded into a full-fledged franchise, including a tactical RPG (The Amulet of Chaos) and now, this latest entry, which offers a different flavor of the dungeon-crawling experience.

Switch users: Time to manage your own dungeon

Switch players will now have the chance to jump into a fresh take on the Naheulbeuk universe, one where you’re not just adventuring through dungeons—you’re running them. Naheulbeuk’s Dungeon Master puts you in the shoes of the iconic Dungeon Master character who, instead of seeking treasure, must manage the underground labyrinth, deciding how to thwart and challenge the party of adventurers who dare step foot inside.

Fans of games like Dungeon Keeper and Evil Genius will likely feel at home here, as the premise involves balancing traps, monsters, and resources to keep would-be heroes from plundering your dark domain. It’s a refreshing twist on the traditional RPG formula, with loads of humor and absurdity that Naheulbeuk fans have come to expect.

PS5 release: Just a bit more patience required

As for PlayStation 5 players eagerly awaiting their turn, the physical edition will be ready for release on November 8. This will mark the first time the title gets a proper retail edition for next-gen consoles, bringing its charming mix of dungeon management, strategy, and silly antics to an even wider audience. According to Microids, the slight delay is just to make sure everything is polished up and ready to go for Sony’s console.

What’s new to offer?

Naheulbeuk’s Dungeon Master allows you to take control of the dungeon-building process, setting up a vast array of traps, summoning monsters, and generally getting creative with how you, as the Dungeon Master, will try to outwit the adventurers. The key is balancing your resources to maximize the challenge for each party, all while maintaining the dungeon’s integrity.

The charm here lies in the game’s tongue-in-cheek humor—adventurers are hilariously incompetent but determined, and the dungeon’s hazards often take on a slapstick nature. Players will find themselves chuckling as their own concoction of traps and pitfalls send heroes scrambling (and frequently failing).

Players diving into the Switch version will find that the game runs smoothly, though some fans might note the slightly longer load times compared to the experience on more powerful platforms. For those looking to optimize their experience:

  • Trap placement matters! Try doubling up types of traps that work well together for maximum synergy. For example, pairing fire traps with slippery floors can make for comedy gold as flustered adventurers struggle to regain their footing.
  • Dungeon layout is key. Vary the paths in your dungeon to keep adventurers guessing. Linear mazes are far too easy to navigate, but don’t make things too confusing—you still need to manage your own creations efficiently.

Is Naheulbeuk’s Dungeon Master the next big strategy title? That remains to be seen, but what’s certain is that fans of the franchise, as well as anyone who enjoys light-hearted strategy games with a dash of irreverence, will likely find plenty to love.
