Starfield’s physical drama has been resolved, with Bethesda quietly updating their storage page to denote that the game disc will be included with the Xbox release. PC release will get a code in the box, which to be fair – is fair. In order to use a CD I’d have to trust it, first of all and then second I’d need to use my USB CD/DVD reader which I’ve lost.
This concludes the weekend’s drama we covered earlier where they took back a post saying that there would be no disc with the physical release of the game.
That is the story it seems. Except there’s more unanswered questions. Will the collector’s edition come with a disc (the likely answer is no since they call out specifically the standard edition). Then there’s like, can the game fit on a disc? Like will a single disc hold it, will be a dual disc game? Is the disc more of a token?
These questions and more will have to continue to linger until Bethesda gives a direct update on their launch editions and what they include. We’re less than three months out from the launch of Starfield and I’m excited for the game itself.
The news and drama around the physical edition will likely fuel outrage from influencers who follow physical games, although it seems sentiment is split on how much of a deal this is, considering pre-ordering is still a prominent thing. It’s difficult with pre-orders to know what exactly you’re getting when you get it.
Starfield releases in September 2023. Pre-orders give you a few extra trinkets.
