Viva La Dirt League Gets Their Own Game – Team17 Partners With FusionPlay for Exciting Project

Here’s something fans of comedy and gaming can get hyped about! Team17 Digital, the publisher behind titles like Worms and Overcooked!, has officially teamed up with FusionPlay and the hilarious crew at Viva La Dirt League (VLDL) to create a brand-new video game that’s bound to bring laughter and chaos. For long-time subscribers of the YouTube comedy troupe, this feels like the next logical step—finally blending their outrageous humor and nerdy antics into an actual, playable experience.

VLDL has been cracking us up on YouTube for years with their skits that poke fun at video games, RPG tropes, and the general absurdity of the gaming world. Whether it’s their Epic NPC Man series, lampooning the ridiculousness of NPC logic in open-world games (my fav), or their hilarious tech store saga in Bored, these guys have become a staple in the online gaming community. Now, with Team17 and Germany-based FusionPlay developing a game based on their misadventures, we’re all curious to see exactly how their trademark humor will translate into something we can play.

Team17 Digital, best known for plenty of co-op mayhem and quirky indie titles, feels like the perfect partner for a project like this. And FusionPlay, with titles like Potion Party and Across the Valley under their belt, definitely has the right experience in creating fun, light-hearted, and often chaotic gaming experiences. But here’s the kicker: we don’t know much yet about the game itself. The press release hasn’t spilled any details about what genre it will be, what platforms it will hit, or even its release date. That said, with VLDL’s background, it wouldn’t be too shocking if we end up with a hybrid RPG or something that parodies a ton of different genres all at once.

What we do know is that VLDL will bring what they do best—comedy that jabs at gamer culture right where it hurts. In a good way, of course. If you’ve ever watched them mercilessly tear apart NPCs for their poor AI scripting or crack jokes about toxic multiplayer teammates, then you probably already have an idea of the kind of humor the game will bring. Expect plenty of inside jokes, references to their best-loved skits, and scenarios that’ll make any seasoned gamer laugh harder than they probably should.

For fans of both VLDL’s comedy and gaming in general, this is shaping up to be one of the funnier projects we’ll see in 2024.

Could We See an Epic NPC Man Game Mode?

Given how wildly popular the Epic NPC Man skits are, we can only dream that this game will include some kind of mode or narrative where we get to play as an NPC in a glitchy open-world RPG. Imagine wandering around aimlessly, offering the same line of dialogue to heroes as they run past you at light speed. Or even standing in one spot for hours, waiting for a quest-giver to finally acknowledge your existence. The potential is enormous, and with VLDL’s humor, it’s hard to imagine they won’t throw something like this in there.

What to Expect from Team17 and FusionPlay

Team17’s track record with indie games blends well with FusionPlay’s expertise in creating quick-to-pick-up, fun experiences. Potion Party, one of their earlier titles, nailed the chaotic co-op vibe you’d expect when you throw friends into a shared space and ask them to accomplish a goal. On the surface, it might seem like a simple resource management game—but mix in the frantic gameplay and you’ve got a recipe for laughter-filled evenings with friends. If the new VLDL project follows a similar design philosophy, paired with their signature comedy, well… we’re in for a seriously good time.

Release Date? Stay Tuned.

Unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait for more details. With only a 2024 release window given, there’s still a lot to uncover about this ambitious new project. But one thing’s for sure—VLDL fans are buzzing with excitement, and if you’re into games that don’t take themselves too seriously, this one should definitely be on your radar.

Keep an eye on the official Team17 website for updates as this unique partnership continues to develop here!

Whether you’re a VLDL fan, a comedy enthusiast, or just itching for something different in your gaming library, this is one collaboration we’ll all be talking about in the months ahead.
