Boti: Byteland Overclocked Review

Boti: Byteland Overclocked is a 3D platformer that satisfies every itch that 3D platformers have to scratch. There’s collectables, challenging platforming, an easier linear path where you can avoid the optional challenging content. The controls are tight, the power-ups are fun and the level designs are very cheery and positive. Humor-wise the game lands its jokes softly as you run through a cybernetic future.

It’s about 10-14 hours of platforming joy, if you absolutely love games like Astro’s Playroom or Tinykins then this game will definitely charm you. There’s a lot of negative reviews on Steam focusing on bugs, but throughout our playthrough we didn’t experience any.

One big thing, if you’re looking for a game to play co-op with someone else this is definitely one of those amazing co-op games that you can pick up and just play without any frustration. If you’re looking for a new couch co-op game or an easy to play game with a friend this – is – it.

Overall Sentiment on the Game

The game’s really fun and it’s just a great time. The only problem is that it doesn’t do much in the way of new or innovative ideas, it gives you exactly what this genre offers. Unlike Hat in Time which comically enough, released shortly after Super Mario Odyssey which shared somewhat similar mechanics, it doesn’t move the needle in any direction. It stays cleanly in the lane.

That’s actually quite good when you’re wanting more Astro’s Playroom and especially when you want it on the PC. Unlike Astro’s Playroom, there’s a story involving the robots within the PC talking about the PC itself; which is the only major difference. Otherwise the same transverse a buggy world and collect stuff themes are there.

It’s really good though and you should really give it a try.

Conclusion

This is a game I can’t really say a lot on when it just does everything so well but doesn’t do anything new. If you’re wanting 3D platforming and a collect-a-thon you’re not getting better than this. At $20 without it even being on sale it has more than enough content to cover the cost and the graphics are well done, the music is great and again the controls are very tight. There’s not much else you’d want from a 3D platformer that isn’t aiming to change the industry.
