2019 is both a big year for RPGs and a slow one. Tons of really anticipated RPGs and long, storied franchises are either finally coming back or dipping their toe into new territory, but oddly enough the majority of these big releases happened early on in the year. Thankfully there are still plenty of (hopefully) amazing titles coming later in the year so let’s check out what the most anticipated RPGs that are coming out later this year! 5. Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth The latest game in the fan service fueled handheld adaptation of the Persona franchise Persona Q2 is on its way to the 3DS! Adding onto the already jam-packed cast from the first title, Q2 also adds the Phantom thieves from Persona 5, and a few original characters new to the sequel. The gameplay of this sequel has been simplified to appeal to the audience brought in…

Back in the day, there used to be two baseball games that would compete with each other; Sony’s MLB The Show and MLB 2K. Following the release of MLB 2K13, 2K Sports dropped the franchise, leaving PlayStation exclusive The Show to dominate the virtual baseball market. In 2014, RBI Baseball brought back their franchise, aiming to create a more arcade-based style instead of the realistic simulation that The Show offers. I think that is an unwise decision and that the RBI Baseball franchise won’t exist much longer in the future. The thing about baseball video games is that no one buys them except for hardcore baseball fans. Except for Mario Baseball or epic arcade-style games like The Bigs or Slugfest, baseball fans want a realistic sim. The casual baseball fan isn’t going to buy a copy of RBI Baseball like a casual fan would buy Madden or NBA 2K. If…

Towards the end of this month, Yoshi’s Crafted World will be released worldwide for the Nintendo Switch. I’m not sure how, but I literally just heard about this game for the first time the other day. I saw gameplay footage on YouTube, and I have to say, this game looks pretty hype. Yoshi is one of my favorite Mario characters. He is a loyal, trusty pal and he deserves to have the spotlight on him now and then. In addition to being one of my favorite captains in Mario Baseball, Yoshi also happens to have some cool abilities that are fun to play around with and explore. Yoshi is an absolute speed demon, he can stay in the air for while with his jump, and his tongue and egg-making abilities make him a real threat to any enemy. He’s not one to mess around with. The last game I played that…

Mario Kart is a franchise that has always been a blast to play, whether it be on a tv screen or a handheld console. Much like Smash Bros is associated with a Gamecube controller, I am a big believer that Mario Kart should use the Wii Wheel at all times. It just feels right. The Nintendo Wii is one of my favorite consoles ever, and Mario Kart Wii used the Wii remote in the best way possible. I loved the concept of the Wii Wheel. Putting the Wii remote into the wheel and being able to physically turn it left and right felt perfect. It was a seamless feeling and I don’t think there is any other way a Mario Kart game should be played. I can never go back to using buttons after my Mario Kart Wii experience. It is how it is supposed to be played. Now Mario…

So the other day I came across some frosted circus animal cookies, and instantly I was back in another time and place. I said out loud how they reminded me of Super Mario 64 since I would always eat them while playing that game. Funny enough, my brother agreed with me, saying he thought the same thing. Isn’t it crazy how that works? The human mind is truly incredible, and I started thinking of what other games I associatewith certain foods. Strangely enough, I associate these barbeque chips with Army Men: Sarge’s Heroes and know that the first time I cranked up Modern Warfare 2, I was eating pretzels. I’ll also hear certain songs that I would jam to during my MW2 online matches, and I instantly think of the game. Does anyone else feel like this, or is it just me? The thing that blows me away is that…

Sarcasm and satire warning. The mouse better watch out. Its alliance with Square-Enix has taken it to a path where they’re able to use the Disney Princesses’s and the power of the keyblade to push the Marvel Universe forward and have Thanos become a household name. Until now there hasn’t been a great challenger to Disney and it’s empire based around damsels in distress and large purple monsters trying to destroy half the universe. Now Bowser is in control. One thing we know Bowser can do and that’s capture a princess. Kicking Reggie to the curb, Nintendo of America has allied with the one true super power that will take the kingdom of toads to the next dark epoch in the ever expanding war for you to consume media. While darkness falls over the Mushroom Kingdom and Bowser takes over the reigns, installing lava jets throughout the campus and turning…

If you have known Nintendo at any point in the past 15 years, then Reggie Fils-Amie is probably a familiar face and for great reason. Before his first appearance on stage with Nintendo back at E3 2004 the game company was known for being very stoic and flat when it came to presenting their games in North America but when the man later dubbed “The Regginator” introduced himself he brought with him a new era of Nintendo. One that wasn’t as uptight with its presentations, one that advertised games the same way that gamers felt playing them, and one that recaptured everything that made Nintendo great. My name is Reggie. I’m about kickin’ ass, I’m about takin’ names, and we’re about makin’ games.Reggie Fils-Amie at his first E3 with Nintendo 2004 Reggie quickly became a legend in the gaming community and was unofficially elected meme lord, with each press conference…

After nearly 13 years as the president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime has now decided to retire. A new president of Nintendo of America has already been chosen, being none other than Doug Bowser. Reggie Fils-Aime quickly won over the hearts and minds of many Nintendo fans with his gentle and open demeanor. Fans would go on to form memes of the Nintendo of America president, such as can be found below. In a joint statement on Thursday, however, Fils-Aime and Nintendo of America announced that the company’s president and COO would be retiring this spring. Current senior vice president of sales and marketing Doug Bowser has since been chosen to replace Fils-Aime as president of Nintendo of America. Fils-Aime’s final day within his long held position will be April 15. Fils-Aime first landed his position back in May of 2006. Prior to that, the…

Death is a natural part of life. Life giveth, life taketh, and life messeth with you a little bit along the way. It’s always sad when a game series forever concludes, but all good things must come to an end. But what about those series that never received a definitive end where the protagonist walks into the sunset as the main theme starts to play? I mean, that’s how my life is going to end (I have rehearsed it repeatedly), but there are many series of games that received no such luck. Today, let’s take a look at what games should’ve gotten another in their series, or should make a return, or simply added truth to the saying that the good always die young. Or, worse yet, are frozen in suspended animation until their publisher decides to use them ever again — truly, an even more twisted fate. 5. F-Zero…

It was just recently announced that a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening will be dropping in 2019. I have never played the original, but from what I saw in the trailer, this game looks beautiful. The sequel to A Link to the Past, Link’s Awakening deals with hero Link stranded on a strange island after washing ashore while out at sea. I am excited to cintinue this specific Link’s story and see what his destiny holds for him. After the success of releasing A Link Between Worlds (which was basically a remake itself), it seems like a no-brainer for Nintendo to release a remake of Link’s Awakening. Originally released for the Game Boy, this remake is a great fit for the Nintendo Switch system, which can be played as a console or in mobile form. The game looks absolutely stunning and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. The trailer for this game begins with a cartoon scene…
