With the live-action trend happening in movies today, it’s no surprise that a Sonic the Hedgehog movie is going down. The character design was recently leaked, and I must say that it was a little shocking to me. I’ll let you be the judge yourself. The image of Sonic was released but then taken down by the movie marketing company. Maybe the design will be revamped due to a backlash on social media; I’m not sure. Personally, I am not a fan of the design. I think it looks weird and whacky and is a poor representation of Sonic. It appears a little creepy honestly, not like a hero that you would want to root for. I don’t get why they are going for this realistic, live-action concept for Sonic. It may work for movies like The Lion King, but that’s because those animals are real and can be easily…

Everything in this world has its particular lingo. In baseball there are phrases such as “this dude drops tanks” meaning he hits the crap out of the ball. There is specific legal jargon, such as the terms “de jure” and “de facto” which mean something. Gaming is no different. Gaming has its own lingo, and if you want to consider yourself a true gamer, you need to polish up on your vocabulary. Let’s start with some basics. While “GG” could mean a number of things in the real world, from “go girl!” to Charlie Brown’s catchphrase “good grief,” “GG” simply means good game. If you’ve had a hard fought multiplayer battle, you may want to message your opponent telling them it was a good game. This shows your respect for their gameplay and that you admire their skills. “FTW” is another basic term. It means “for the win”. It is…

The immensely talented Ryan Reynolds is a great actor. He can do both drama and comedy and has played some significant roles over the years. However, no role he’s played before could have prepared him for taking on his most demanding part yet – Detective Pikachu. Reynolds says about the role, “You know, I lived it, I breathed it, I became the character. I spent the entire year as Detective Pikachu.” If he doesn’t receive an Oscar nod for this portrayal, I fear all hope for humanity is gone. Reynolds recently released a YouTube video about becoming Pikachu, which you should definitely check out below. In it, he describes how he vanishes into his roles, like any seasoned actor aspires to. In fact, when he found out he got the part, he didn’t even pick up his daughters from school, because Detective Pikachu doesn’t know who they are. Reynolds went…

Square Enix’s hit series Kingdom Hearts has been around since way back in 2002. Well, the seventeen-year-old franchise just hit another major milestone. The first Kingdom Hearts immediately snared the attention of gamers around the world. Featuring a crossover universe of Disney, beloved Square Enix characters and a slew of new faces, the game offered a vibrantly new and interesting experience. Since the release of the first game, Square Enix has released well over a dozen titles across a bevy of gaming platforms. The latest in the series is Kingdom Hearts 3, the final edition of the series’ main trilogy. The game was released Jan. 25 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One respectively. The title features the series original main character Sora, as the character is swept off to a battle between darkness and light. Set to search for the key to return hearts and the seven guardians of light,…

The recent hype around Obsidian Entertainment’s new The Outer Worlds title has drawn an interesting point. AA developers can still lure the attention of the video game industry’s exponentially growing video game audience. It’s a good thing too, because we need those developers now more than ever. First off, before breaking down why we need smaller developers, let’s dig into why The Outer Worlds is getting so much attention right now. Obsidian Entertainment includes members of the development team involved in the original Fallout franchise. Video game titan Bethesda purchased the rights to the franchise before producing Fallout 3, Fallout Shelter, Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. Obsidian was later contracted to make Fallout: New Vegas, however. Bethesda has been receiving some heat from fans as of late. Many hardcore fallout fans were seemingly underwhelmed by Fallout 4 following the critical success of Fallout 3. Beyond that, the release of Fallout…

So I wrote an article recently on Blockbuster and the lost art of renting games, which gave me an urge within myself that I hadn’t felt in years. I needed to rent a game. I needed to satisfy that deep, long-lost urge inside of me, but where does one start? The only rental service that I even know of is Redbox, so operation Redbox Rental came to fruition. I had never rented anything from Redbox before, so the question became how do I even do this and what game do I rent? I had watched movies with friends who had rented them through Redbox, and I had even seen them operate the mystical, Redbox machines (SPOILER ALERT – they look like red boxes). However, I had never physically interacted with the machine itself. I would look like a fool if I went up to my first Redbox and not even…

I have one goal in my lifetime, and that is to own a Ms. Pac-Man arcade machine (with Galaga of course) at some point. With today’s technology, arcade games can appear to be obsolete. We have televisions and consoles that produce lifelike graphics, and video games are going places they have never been before, especially once VR becomes commonplace. But we shouldn’t forget arcade games of the past, the roots of modern-day gaming as we know it. Walking into an arcade is a lost art. Today, kids can pull up a game on their phone and play anywhere at any time they want, usually during school or times when their focus should be elsewhere. I was never an arcade child myself, but I have heard the war stories that have been passed down to me. People would flock to the arcades after school with quarters they saved up, taking turns…

There was something magical about creating your Mii. Picking out your hair, eyes, height weight, favorite color, it was all such a mystical experience. Soon, my Mii wasn’t enough. I had to have more. My brothers and I would binge-create Mii’s until our Mii Channel was full of a Mii mob. We would create Mii’s modeled after family, friends, and even characters from tv and movies. The Mii addiction was all too real. We needed help. Creating Mii’s was always entertaining. If you were bored, try creating some of the most absurd Mii’s as possible. It was such a creative, refreshing idea. The fun thing with a horde of Mii’s in your plaza was that they would pop up in your games. If you were playing Wii Sports, your created Mii’s would become your teammates or audience, and it was cool to see which ones made the cut. Taking on…

Well, the time is nearly here. Kingdom Hears 3 is now just days away from a worldwide release. While the game has not quite made it in stores, reviews for the massive title are already hitting the internet. Now, the time has come to take a look at what the world thinks of Kingdom Hearts 3. Don’t let the three within the title fool you, Kingdom Hearts 3 is far from the third title within the series. With just shy of a dozen within the series, Kingdom Hearts is filled with spin-offs and alternate universes that both entertain and boggle the mind. Now, however, fans of the series are gearing up for the final chapter of the primary narrative. Some of the top sites within the gaming world have already offered a review of the upcoming title, offering fans a sneak peak at Kingdom Hearts 3. Check out what many…

I will be 100% transparent. I don’t even remember the last Call of Duty game I have purchased. I used to be a loyal fan, building up anticipation for the new release every November, but at some point, I couldn’t justify buying it anymore. Each game seemed to be worse and worse than the previous, and I vowed that I wouldn’t buy another unless it was worth it. Now I played alongside some friends because when someone needs a partner to take on zombies, you aren’t going to say no. I feel like the franchise became about pumping out games and setting money records with every release instead of making quality ones. I honestly have no idea how they made four Black Ops games. I never got the same feeling I had gotten when playing any of the Modern Warfares or World at War. The newer releases didn’t do it for me. A movie is…
