Polish gaming studio CD Projekt Red has made a name for themselves through their incredibly successful The Witcher series. While things have become tense between the development studio and the author of the original The Witcher novels, things have seemingly reached an amicable end between the two. Most recently CD Projekt Red released the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The third in the series, The Witcher 3 garnered massive sales numbers and has earned critical praise around the world. However, the game series is actually not the first thing to bear The Witcher name. The Witcher is an original series of novels and short stories authored by Andrzej Sapkowski. However, Sapkowski sold The Witcher rights for video game development to CD Projekt Red for a lump sum. Speaking to Eurogamer, Sapkowski stated “I was stupid enough to sell them rights to the whole bunch.…
A child sex sting operation finally reached its end this Super Bowl Sunday. Of the 21 men arrested, none other than Hi-Rez studios’ Thomas Cheung has been taken into custody. Thomas Cheung has previously worked for CCP Games on EVE Online and held contracts from popular game companies like NZXT who has released a statement saying they are not affiliated with him and they condemned this behavior and Steelseries, who has acknowledged he is no longer associated with the brand, but has yet to release any other statement. (Tweets below). This is a travesty for the gaming community, in which he had many hands in and wore many hats in the last few years for. While only currently a suspect, these allegations are very strong. (Editor’s Note) This hits really close to home, literally, being based out of Georgia. Dot Matrix Media, Game Truth’s parent company, absolutely condemns this behavior…
The Wii Shop Channel has been live for nearly 12 years. Despite the smashing success of the Wii and the continued achievements of the Wii U, it is now the era of the Switch. With the Nintendo Switch having topped the hardware sales charts for 2018, it seems few fans are complaining. That being said, it’s still the end of an era. After nearly a solid dozen years of selling WiiWare and virtual console games, the Wii Shop Channel is now planning to shut down on Jan. 30, 2019. Many of the games offered within the service were never given a physical copy release or shifted to newer Nintendo consoles. Beyond that, Nintendo reportedly plans to eventually cease providing the ability to redownload previous purchases from the now fading channel. Consequently, many of these wonderful games will…
Free to play games are great, or are they? I can get behind a free to play game under certain circumstances but unfortunately those circumstances are far and few between. The truth is nothing in life is truly free it is like magic everything has a cost. But what is the real cost of a free to play game? I can get behind a free to play game if it uses ads in a respectful manner, micro-transactions solely for ascetics, paid expansions but beyond this I find it unacceptable and the price is your enjoyment. If I must play with people willing to spend real money to rank up it ruins the game for me (though there is always joy when you beat a paid player.) The problem is greed is strong and of course I understand that it costs insane amounts of money to make these games and they…
