So I have a problem with Apex Legends. The game has a severe learning curve and is extremely difficult to pick up at first. I have a few matches under my belt now, and by matches I mean surviving for a brief moment until I get killed by someone who actually knows what they’re doing. So my problem with Apex Legends is this: why is there no solo matchmaking at all? As one experienced in the art of team sports, I understand what Apex Legends is doing and I appreciate their idea of promoting the team over the individual. However, I find it hard to be able to experiment with the game and get comfortable with it when I have a team that is relying on me at all times. As someone who is currently not very skilled at the game, I would like a mode that would let me…

Having garnered over 25 million players within just a week of its release, Apex Legends is growing to a massive size. With the game having already passed its first month and with millions of concurrent players battling it out at any given moment, jumping into this gigantic battle royale can easily seem intimidating. But, don’t worry. We have you covered. Apex Legends was released on Feb. 4, 2019. Free-to-play, the battle royale game is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. The game has earned largely positive reviews, having garnered a total 88 Metacritic score on PC. While the game is highly popular, the experience can seem intimidating at first. There are a series of classes to choose from before you even pick up a gun. Beyond that, the title features a sprawling map filled with highly skilled players that have been honing their craft of killing newcomers…

Ah, yes: that classic moment in games when you have to make that first important decision for your character, affecting how you’re going to play the game from there. Decisions can be stressful if you’re not sure which way to go — we’ve all had that existential crisis choosing between two flavors of ice cream (what, you haven’t? No, you have, everyone has. Me having a personal crisis over ice cream is normal, okay?). In Bioware’s Anthem, the first important choice you have to make is which Javelin you will choose to play as. Don’t worry — you’ll be able to suit up and play as all the Javelins by the time you reach the end of the game. But once you choose your first one, you’re going to be locked into it for a fair bit of time as you progress, so you’ll want to make the choice that’s…

Alright, do I seem a little obsessed with the Resident Evil 2 remake? Because I totally am. The recent DLC has only reignited my fire to 100% this game because not only does it add more quality fun content but its also very affordable with the low low price of completely free. I don’t want to make it seem like the only thing to praise about this DLC is the price tag, the quality is easily that of a paid add-on and I can’t express how awesome the developers are for doing this too but I’ll get to that later. The idea of the DLC is to give some “What if?” scenarios for the player to explore, giving a happier ending to some side characters that didn’t deserve the horrific fates they met. What’s even better is that while the advertisements promote only the three modes of the mayors daughter,…

Below is literally a true to the title’s words list of 5 random games that people will argue that the games are better than Fortnight. I source this list from many previous conversations where I was just asking for my friends to work hard on their epic victory royales and really bring in that chicken dinner, but alas they instead tell me: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild… is better than Fortnite. Metacritic gives it a 97 and literally any video gamer that you talk to who is a true video gamer that has played it will also give it around a 97 because it’s truly an amazing game. For the Nintendo Switch / Wii U, it pushes what you can do with colors and the world even on hardware that’s always last gen. H1Z1 – Not Battle Royale … is better than Fortnite. Much like Firefly, H1Z1…

Now I can already tell I will not gain favor with a good portion of the internet for this one but it is my opinion as a writer so gosh darn it I’ll say it. I, like many others, decided to try out Respawn Entertainments latest game Apex Legends and I have to say I hate the trend of every AAA including a Battle Royal mode but in this instance, I actually enjoyed my experience playing. The game feels a little out of balance at times, nothing that can’t be fixed with a few updates, but the game attempts to be as fair in that balance as possible such as making team revives possible but still requiring some skill, and luck. In addition, when you drop into the map a screen pops up not only telling you where you dropped but the quality of loot that will be there which…

I just downloaded Apex Legends yesterday, and if I had only one thing to say about it so far, it would have to be I have no idea what I’m doing. The concept is interesting, with squads of three with each character having their own “Legend” character with a particular class/skill. This game could be extremely popular, but I don’t know if it will take over Fortnite like they hope. Although there is a tutorial upon starting the game, I found myself struggling during actual gameplay. The tutorial just runs you through the basics, and there’s no way of finding out what each individual Legend is capable of. I have no earthly idea what their unique abilities and skills are aside from the general description of what they do (although it looks like their website tells you). So for now I just pick out which character looks coolest to me. It’s…

Rumors are flying around on the internet about a new Batman Court of Owls game, but that’s not what we are here to talk about today (but we will at some point). Instead, I want to talk about an awesome concept that I think any Batman fan would enjoy, no matter if you know what the Court of Owls is or if you don’t even know Batman’s secret identity. Upon thinking about what DC has planned for this upcoming year, and in particular their Joker origin movie, I thought of a great video game idea. I want to explore Gotham as one of the greatest villains of all time – Joker. Yes, you get to play as Joker in a few video games like the Injustice series or even a little bit in the Batman: Arkham series, but never has he had his own game. How cool would it be…

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is without a doubt one of the best games I have played in years. With so much to do and explore, I found myself lost in the world of Hyrule once again. Breath of the Wild brings a fresh view to the way a Zelda game is played. Your options are limitless. You can do anything you want. Ordinarily, Zelda games in the past had a certain formula. You have to defeat a couple of temples, where you usually find an item that helps you to navigate the temple and defeat the final boss. You then get the Master Sword, defeat a few more temples, and then you fight Ganon or the main boss. It is all a linear story. From the beginning of Breath of the Wild, you get the sense that this is no ordinary Zelda game. You realize the…

Free to play games are great, or are they? I can get behind a free to play game under certain circumstances but unfortunately those circumstances are far and few between. The truth is nothing in life is truly free it is like magic everything has a cost. But what is the real cost of a free to play game? I can get behind a free to play game if it uses ads in a respectful manner, micro-transactions solely for ascetics, paid expansions but beyond this I find it unacceptable and the price is your enjoyment. If I must play with people willing to spend real money to rank up it ruins the game for me (though there is always joy when you beat a paid player.) The problem is greed is strong and of course I understand that it costs insane amounts of money to make these games and they…
